Tell Us About You
Clarissa Widya started as Creative Producer with New Earth Theatre in 2024, before moving to the position of Executive Producer in 2026.
Clarissa was the co-founder and former Co-Artistic Director of Papergang Theatre. She led the project-to-project company as a producer and facilitated writing workshops and R&Ds, and produced staged readings, scratch nights and festival shows. Clarissa also mentored the MA Producer course at the Royal Centre School of Speech and Drama, where she completed her own degree many moons ago.
Originally from The Netherlands, Clarissa loves connecting and collaborating with artists and creatives. She is particularly interested in work themed around decolonisation, representation, and identity.
Why do you think it’s important to support artistic responses to social and political events?
An artistic response can translate seemingly complex and overwhelming social and political events into engaging pieces that tap into human connection, compelling people to engage. Artistic response is needed to prevent apathy and despair; it allows for building of relationship between the artist and their audience via the medium of their art and for the audience among themselves as they engage with the piece. Art reaches out: it gives humanity a provocation, a connection, and a reason to keep going.
The Steering Committee
The company directors and panel are involved on an individual capacity, not representing their organisations and on a voluntary basis.
If you are interested in joining the panel in future please email Kathryn Bilyard on kathryn@artcry.co.uk with some information about yourself and why you are interested.
